There’s a part of the magic market we don’t really know. It’s the part aimed at the big names: the performers we see on television and in theaters. Even if you’re a magician who monitors every new release from every magic company, if you go to see a large-scale magic show or switch on the TV, you’ll realise that much of the magic that takes place simply cannot be learned online.

So, where do you learn that kind of magic?

Investigating the “hidden” side of the magic market is both intriguing and exciting. In some ways, this is where real secrets still exist—known by only a handful of people in the world. There were three secret tricks famous magicians perform that we wanted to track down for this edition.

Often, major TV magicians work with their own magic consultants and regularly rely on entire teams. Even then, the consultants aren’t always the ones creating all of the magic. Instead, they turn to secretive creators who do not sell through companies like Murphy’s Magic or Vanishing Inc.

These secret magic creators are available only by request.

Some sell strictly by invitation-only.

These are often expensive, refined, exclusive products, by creators who care deeply about their secrecy — often motivated by money, and professional obligations.

Even as they work hard to make their products difficult to learn or buy, they are increasingly threatened by cheap copies—copies that threaten the work of top performers and the creators who design for them.

We wanted to know their true motivations and whether their actions were working — are they able to keep investing resources into new creations?

We went looking for these creators.
