Now You See Me 3: Everything We Know

Now You See Me Cast of actors at premiere for second movie

Magic has been featured in numerous movies whether as a quick trick or as the main driving force of the plot. Now You See Me mashed the crime thriller genre with a band of Robin Hood-esque magicians. The sequel delved deeper into the underground magic world and featured an even grander scale of illusions than the first. After years of murmur, Now You See Me 3 is finally moving forward with production and here’s everything we know right now about the upcoming blockbuster.

When will Now You See Me 3 be released in theatres?

Seven years after the previous instalment in the series, Lionsgate is choosing to move forward with the third volume in the Now You See Me series. The original intention to release the third film has been revealed since the second’s release but has been stuck in Hollywood development hell for unknown reasons. Since the Hollywood machine can sometimes be brutal, productions like this can stall for years at a time. We can definitely hold onto hope with this news being announced, but when the movie hits the big screen, it will be a question mark for now.

Will the original Now You See Me cast be returning?

Jesse Eisenberg (J. Daniel Atlas), Woody Harrelson (Merritt McKinney), and Morgan Freeman (Thaddeus Bradley) are all linked to the project, but it is unclear if any of the rest of the cast will be joining for the ride. Mark Ruffalo (Dylan Rhodes) and Dave Franco (Jack Wilder) both have starred in prior instalments, so as the production of the movie rolls along, we can expect announcements that they will be returning as well, although there is no guarantee. The film is set to be directed by newcomer to the series Ruben Fleischer who has directed a slew of recent blockbusters, including Uncharted (2022) and Venom (2018).

What do we know about Now You See Me 3’s plot?

There is little to be known about the plot because the writing process has just begun. At the end of Now You See Me 2, the four horsemen and Dylan Rhodes are finally accepted into a secret society called The Eye. Thaddeus, adversary of Rhodes since the end of the first film, was revealed to be the leader of The Eye and an old friend of Rhodes’s father, Lionel Shrike. Full leadership of The Eye was handed over to Rhodes as the movie ended. If the movie picks up where the last left off, we can expect a further exploration of The Eye and a look at what their motivations are. There has been a veil of mystery over how they operate, but we should expect at least a peek behind the curtain.

Despite the mixed reception for the previous films, it is always exciting to see magic featured on the big screen. There are always magicians on set working behind the scenes to get the actors to execute the moves to the best of their ability. David Kwong and Keith Barry are just a few of the consultants on the past films, and whoever is tasked to help on the next film is bound to push the boundaries of magic even further.
